Medford, Mass-Amerisuites Hotel
Would this be a good choice for a family who wants to visit Boston during the day? The appeal is that it is a suite hotel (more space) and breakfast is included in the fairly reasonable price. Also, it is supposed to be adjacent to public transportation. Anyone ever stayed there? Any feedback? (It is too new to be rated by Mobil travel guide and AAA guide)

I've not stayed here; it is visible from Rt. 93 heading into Boston; it's really in Medford/Somerville area. It's not a picturesque area but if you plan to spend your time seeing the sights, and it's reasonable, why not? Someone else I'm sure will post more info for you.

I am bringing my family to Boston for a week around St Patrick's Day.I have a triple room reserved at the Doubletree Downtown as a safety net but am concerned it will be rather cramped for 4.The Amerisuites in Medford are offering $99 a night for a suite with 2 doubles,a sofabed and a kitchen.
It sounds too good to be true-how accessible is it for the *T* and is it in a safe area? Can we get back late in the evening by *T*.What is the nearest *T* station and would we be able to walk to it from the hotel. If not,how much would a cab cost?
Any info positive or negative would be appreciated

Hello Vanetta and Sean,
I live in Medford, Massachusetts, which is about a 20 minutes away from Boston. I never stayed at the Amerisuites, however, I go by them everyday. Location is not very scenic, but safe. Medford is a family-friendly, hospitable city, with easy, fast accessibility into Boston. Amerisuites is in walking distance to bus stops (Medford Square). Buses are about a 10 minute ride to train stations. The Amerisuites is close to two train stations, Wellington Station and Sullivan Station. Medford Square has buses going to both stations. There is an express bus into Boston that operates from the hours of 6:30am to 9:20am (every 18 minutes during those hours) and then will resume in the afternoon 3:30pm to 6:30pm to make return trips from Boston. I also believe there is a bus to Harvard Sq., Cambridge from Medford Sq., but check out www.mbta.com for bus and train schedules (the Medford express bus numbers are 325 and 326). Feel free to email me; I'll do my best to answer any other questions you might have.

Lisa,
Thanks a million for the info-I think we will go with the Amerisuites-more room and $60 a day extra spending money than the Doubletree Downtown! My only concern is that I wanted to spend some nights in some Irish bars-it's a long way from Southie. Are there any decent Irish bars near Medford?

Sean,
Medford is a dry city, meaning no bars, however, Medford neighbors the City of Somverille which has many Irish Bars, unfortunately, being the full-blooded Italian I am, I can only think of one...The Burren in Davis Square, Somerville. Seven nights a week there's is live authenitic Irish-style music played there. It's about a 5-10 minute cab ride from your hotel. Also you are not too far from Boston by cab, approximately 20 minutes. Irish Bar I recommend there is The Black Rose, Faneuil Hall. I'm sure it won't be hard to have a blast in the Boston area around St. Patrick's Day! Everyone in Boston around that time is green, friendly and beer happy. Enjoy!!
