We stayed at the Holiday Inn French Quarter last October and the location was great. I felt the hotel was a bit outdated and sort of shabby. We had two rooms (one before we went to Larose and a different one when we returned). Both were clean and the beds okay. If you have a good price I wouldn't hesitate to stay there, it just isn't great.
They have a pay-for breakfast on the floor where the pool is that wasn't bad and came in handy on days we didn't want to go out.
Staff was okay. They screwed up our e-mail reservation, but after a bit of a hassle when we got home we got it settled and our money was refunded.
I didn't read every post, but don't think anyone mentioned the World War II Museum which is very interesting. We like to eat at the House of Blues, and if the Gospel Brunches are available when you're there I highly recommend you go. We went to Mr. B's (on the corner from the hotel) for Sunday Jazz Brunch and it was very good. We like Mulate's for Cajun food/music. The Red Fish is another restaurant we like.

Hi! Enjoyed NO last March and our dining favorites (without a jacket) were: for lunch- Napolean House for muffalettas(sit in the courtyard out back), Johnny's Po-boy's, Brennen's for Sunday brunch; for dinner- K-Pauls, Commanders Palace, and (with jacket) Galatoire's; when you've had your fill of beignets at Cafe du Monde for breakfast.....try Petunia's for a wonderful and filling, delicious full breakfast at a reasonable price in a lovely setting.
Have a fabulous time, wish we were joining you !!!
