Maui weather in December

We're trying to decide if we want to vist Maui in the beginning of December. We've stayed at the Napili Kai a number of times and love it, but have always traveled in the summer or early fall. Would we do better to go to the Big Island at that time?
Really appreciate help from "those who know".

The best thing about Maui in the winter is, THE WHALES. Incredible whale watching.

It will be windier and cooler than the summer, but still fabulous. Napili is the best.

The whale-watching season on Maui usually doesn't begin until December 15th. Most of the whales don't show up, however, until January(union rules).

My visit to Maui was in July, but I did spend the week before Christmas last year in Kauai and the weather was wonderful. I would suspect that Maui would have been about the same. Actually, I'm not sure there is a BAD time to visit Hawaii!!

Go and have a great time.

The southern part of the island tends to be wetter and stormier in the winter. One year we were in a condo at Kapalua and the wind was so strong that the flexing of the floor to ceiling glass windows shook violently. We would drive from there to Kannapalli and invariably the weather would improve.

The Makena-Wailai area is inherently dry, parts of it look like a dessert. I think you'll be happier there during the winter.

Hello,
My husband and I went to Maui and the Big Island last year in mid December. In Maui, we stayed in Wailea at the Renaissance. We love it there. At the big island, we stayed at the Outrigger Waikoloa. The weather was great!!!! No rain except in the big island but that's because we were on the other side.
Hope this helps.
Maria
