My husband and I stayed there in 1998 and loved it. If you can go back through the old posts, you should find it. It was very open and had an elegant feel to it. Also had the best beachfront of all of the hotels near it. We would definitely stay there again. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me.

My husband and I had a totally different experience with the Sheraton Maui than Jennifer did. We didn't like it at all and would never stay there again. We had many minor complaints ranging from slippery areas on the staircases caused by misdirected sprinkler heads to arranging for a picnic lunch which we had to pick up becuase they would not deliver it and then we were berated for not leaving a additional tip when there was already a large gratuity and delivery charge included in the price!

The general manager of the hotel was unhelpful as were the folks with the Starwood program.

My entire stay there, I felt like an intruder who was looked at only as someone who had money that they were entitled to in my pocket. I did not feel that way anywhere else we went or stayed in Maui or on any other island I've had the pleasure to visit.

I do look forward to my next trip to Maui, but we will never set foot on the grounds of the Sheraton Maui again. We also try to avoid Starwood properties as much as possible thanks to our stay at this one location. We vote, both in regular elections and with our pocketbooks.

We were in Maui a few weeks ago staying at the Kannapali Alii which has resort charge privileges at the Sheraton so we spent a little time there. The new pool area is beautiful, (okay, it's not the Grand Wailea but it's pleasant to look at and alot of work went into the remodeling) and the waiter in the resturant at breakfast and the waiters/bartenders at the pool grill were friendly and prompt. Example: Even though the hostess knew we weren't hotel guests, we were given a nice front row view table for breakfast. Also, had a lovely experience at the day spa - a "package" of a body scrub/parafin (sp?) wax with hot towel wrap, pedicure, manicure and 1/2 session massage - $200+tax per person - excellent way to spend a few hours! The spa itself isn't very large (comparied to other resorts), but the personnel were great! The prices in the hotel sundry shop was outrageous ($5.00+ for the same box of macademia chocolates that Hilo Hattie has for $1.99!)but other than that it seemed to be a class operation.

Mahalo to you all for your comments and experiences. I'm sorry Julie that you had an unfavorable experience at the Maui Sheraton. We had some problems when we stayed at the Hyatt down the beach. I know that when we stayed at the new Kauai Sheraton in 1998 the staff and facilities were outstanding. Aloha! Eke
