Maui, Ritz vs. Kea Lani vs. 4 Season

My fiancee and I were just about to book a week at the Four Seasons in maui, but right when we were going to reserve we found out the pool would be under construction! So now we need to find a hotel comprable. We were deciding between the Ritz Carlton, which might be too rainy since we are going in December or the Kea Lani which doesn't have the same service as the others. Or even the 4 Seasons with no pool! Please help!

Unfortunately, i heard it right from the 4 Seasons. Dec 1st- 18th. They are offering day trips in lieu of the pool.

We stayed at both the Kea Lani and the Ritz. Both are gorgeous properties, but the weather in Kapalua is too windy and rainy. At the Ritz they even have a protective transparent barrier at the pool as it is too windy. The restaurants, as much as they are good are very pricey and the only other choice to eat close by would be the Kapalua. Go to the Kea Lani, use the restaurants at the Four Seasons which are supposed to be excellent. kThe pool are is gorgeous just hte same. Your right...Four Seasons would be my choice as well but the Kea Lani got almost as high a rating this year as the FS. Feel free to email me directly for more recommendations, etc. jAnnemarie

Before you decide against the Four Seasons give some thought to whether you would actually use the pool. I made sure we stayed at hotels with nice pools before we took our trip, and we didn't use either pool. We used the beach exclusively. The Wailea area has beautiful beaches.

Who stays at pool while vacationing in Hawaii? Hawaii has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Perhaps if you were vacationing in NY/NJ/CT you'd look for a hotel with a pool.

Actually my wife and I will be at the Four Seasons 2 weeks prior to your honeymoon. Even sans pool we'd be long the Four Seasons.

So take your surf board and your sandals and head down to the beach.

I appreciate everybody's comments. It's not that the pool per se is so important it is the fact that there will be construction going on while I am there. I have stayed at hotels that have no pool but none while they drained it and ripped the tiles out and then replaced them. If I choose the Kea Lani, it seems I get the pool, beach, no construction, and big 800 square foot suite. BUT I lose the famous 4 Seasons service. OUCH! I heard the Ritz is not so great and the weather in December is horrendous.

Just to add what to what I had advised above, yes, the beach is really beautiful, but these beaches are not like the Caribbean beaches, where the water is clear and placid. There were warning flags up even in July at both the Ritz and the Kea Lani and the water was rough. Many more people were at the Kea Lani and Four Season pool than were at the beach. I do understand your dilemna, though, You know, we walked over from the Kea Lani and sat in the lounge and read, ordered a drink. Annemarie
