Melissa, maybe I missed something but will you NOT have a car on this trip? You'll want one! The Maui Prince sits pretty much out by itself in Makena but there's plenty of eating options in nearby Wailea and Kihei, although you'll want a car to get to these places. The Sunday brunch is awesome, but yeah, expensive. They have a Japanese restaurant, "Hakone" in the Prince.
The Prince has one of the hottest bartenders in the world! MMMMMMMMM. Oh wait....you're celebrating your anniversary, right? My bad! Nevermind then.
The beach right off the hotel property is gorgeous and used a lot for couples getting married. Snorkeling is good.

We load up on snacks etc at Cosco, next to the airport and hit Safeway for milk, etc. and eat in the room.
----------------------------------------
You can get milk at Costco also for the exact same price as it is at Safeway. Be forewarned, it's $3.50 per gallon!

kolohegirl, yes, we will have a car...we're renting a convertible. But we will want to eat breakfast at the Maui Prince because my perfect dream involves waking up, having a light breakfast, and walking down to the ocean to snorkel...No hassles with cars, parking, etc. The perfect morning.
But after a swim we will hop in the car and explore...People have recommended Nick's, Sarrento's, and Mama's Fish House for romantic dinners...What about places to get good food for lunch, and more casual dinners? What's good in Wailea and Kihei? We love seafood (Not greasy fried food though), exotic and spicy foods, fresh fruits and vegies.
About that hot bartender at the Maui Prince...Well, I can still LOOK, right? I can't help it if the scenery is gorgeous...We're married, but we're not blind! I think there's a 3-second rule for married people...You are allowed a free 3-second look.
Actually I'd rather look at younger couples in love than look at single men...I'm 48 and hubby is gonna be 50 in January. Deep inside every older couple there's a young couple falling in love all over again...

This thread has gotten me excited for our first trip to the Maui Prince this Saturday. Question: We are booked in a partial oceanview room. I was thinking of upgrading to an oceanview room. Can anyone that has seen both tell me if there is an appreciable difference? Thanks.

Melissajoy, there are quite a few threads here on where to eat in the Kihei area. I answer this question quite a bit, but may I offer up the Seawatch and Mulligans as two suggestions. The Seawatch is my favorite Wailea restaurant for a special night out. I find the lanai to be most romantic, but they are good for breakfast and lunch as well. And check out Mulligans on Mondays nights for the Gypsy jazz stylings of Tom Conway and Gypsy Pacific. Also be on the look out for apreanaces by Joe Cano, Maui's very own flemenco/jazz guitar virtuoso, who has recently returned to the `aina after living on the mainland for the past year. Another simply magnificent place to dine is Capische? at the Diamond Resort in Wailea. For some reason visitors miss this place. I guess they aren't included in the popular guide books. Capische has an Italian inspired menu and is ten times better than Sarento's, IMO. And Kolohe Girl already mentioned Hakone at the Prince. I'm not big on buffets outside of Vegas, but, OMG, tthe sushi buffet at Hakone is unbeliveable!
