Maui, Little Makena Beach

My husband and I were in Maui last July and went to Little Makena. It's still a clothing optional beach and, in my opinion, one of the prettiest on the island. I've been there every year for the past 6 years and the authorities have never bothered it. It's very safe. Mainly locals and tourists who enjoy go ing clothing option go there. It's got a real family feel. I was a little skeptical when my husband first took me there, but now I love it. There's nothing better than swimming in the Hawaiian ocean naked. As my friend who went with us last year said, It's like being in the womb. There's also some pretty good body surfing on that beach when the waves are pumping. Hope you have fun!

Little Makena is a great beach. The only legal problems occur when people get a little too frisky and head off to wander the bushes!
Bodysurfing is great, the water very clear. Good snorkeling around the point at the far end of the beach on calm days. But the tide comes in fast, in one big wave, so stay way back from the water. We learned this the hard way. Consult a tide table in the daily newspaper for high tide time to avoid getting your stuff soaked.

The problem we had with Makena was that it was very crowded when we were there. We enjoy nude beaches but it is nice to have decent space between sunbathers. Makena felt like one of those crowded pool areas where everyone is sitting or lying almost on top of each other. Maybe its not always like this. Its easy to get to and check out. Fran - nude beaches usually have a wide variety of shapes and sizes so not to worry about that.
