For a honeymoon, where would you stay - Lahaina or Waileia?

definitely wailea, lahaina is a town, and the hotels there aren't really beach front resorts.
check out the many many maui heidi posts for more info on maui than you will know what to do with.
meanwhile..i highly advise the Kona Village Resort on the Big Island....all the rooms are individual hawaiian-style houses, called hales, and it includes all meals which are very good. they have a website, konavillage.com. if you are interested, email me and i will give you more details....good luck & congratulations.

It depends, we go to the islands every other year, too far from east coast. Normally, we will go to two islands with Maui the second and final stop. Both the Big Island and Kauai are very laid back and more relaxing. When we get to Maui we're ready for more activity and we always stay on Kaanapali. Yes it's more crowded but the better restaurants are more plentiful in west Maui. We visited the Renaissance last year and it is very nice as all the newer hotels in Wailea are. Some day we will probably stay in Wailea but not yet. Lahaina(Front St.) is a fun place and offers lots.
The choice is more a personal preference as to what you are looking for. If you just want to lay around the pool or beach then Wailea works.
The good thing is that whatever your decision is you will be in Maui and that's great.

Do read the Maui Heidi posts; you will read a great deal about the pros & cons in the different areas.

Bart, you are so wrong about just laying by the pool or on the beach in Wailea. There are tons of things to do, but you don't know about them if you don't stay over there, and the restaurants in the Kihei - Wailea - Makena area are wonderful!

Believe me, Jay, it's all wonderful but Wailea more so!
