Can't go wrong with either. We have not stayed down there(Wailea) but it's the newer hotels on Maui. We prefer the Kaanapali / Kapalua area. Normally stay at Marriott but last time stayed at the Ritz and it was fantastic - pricey. My brother stayed at Kea Lani last year and was real happy.

Hi Monica,
Although I have stayed at neither of these Hotels, I believe the Renaissance is quite a bit older than the Kea Lani.
Rooms at the Kea Lani are ultra Deluxe, however I have heard that the food and service are a bit lacking. I don"t know what time of year you are going but I believe in the winter Beach at Kea Lani is very rough, however pool is wonderful.
I am sure wherever you stay you will enjoy your trip since you have put so much effort into the planning.

Aloha Monica!
The Wailea area of Maui has some of the most
beautiful beaches on Maui. Both resorts you
mentioned are located on two of the nicest beaches
on the south side of Maui. I had the opportunity
to walk through the Kea Lani in August. It's a
beautiful resort. It reminds me of something a
sultan would live in. The rooms are all suites, I
believe. I haven't seen the Renaissance (Stouffer)
but I've talked to people who have stayed there and
I've heard nothing but positive comments. All the
resorts in Wailea are first class and the service
is top rate at them all. If you would like more info
about Maui and Wailea try their website www.maui.net.
Aloha

You have great tastes in hotels...We have stayed at the Kea Lani. All rooms are suites with 2 phones, 2 tv's 2 vcrs, Micro and Frig. The bathrooms are huge with tubs and glasswalled showers. The villas are perfect for a family with your own private splash pool and bbq on the deck. Polo beach is clean and safe. The food is wonderful, and they have many special events with food and wine. We found the staff to be friendly and professional...Enjoy

Have stayed at the Renaissance and loved the hotel and the service. They have a number of affordable packages and also participate in the 1/2 price off Entertainment discount. It makes the rooms very affordable. Have stayed in their ocean makapu wing--great, but pretty overpriced (we had an upgrade).

We have been to Maui 5 times, stayed at the Kei
Lani the last 2 and would never stay anywhere else. Rooms are wonderful, food very good but
not too large a choice if you plan on eating at the hotel every night (why do that anyway). Beach is small but private and quiet, grounds are beautiful. Nice to order room service after a long day and have it served in your living room, watch a laser disc (you can rent them in the library) and just relax. Many good restaurants within 10 minutes. Any additional questions, email us. Mahalo.
