This is what I've heard.
There are two buildings at the Westin, the Ocean Tower and the Beach Tower. The rooms in the Beach Tower are clearly newer and larger (and probably more expensive) than those in the Ocean Tower. If you can get in the Beach Tower, stay at the Westin. If you can't, stay at the Hyatt.
The Westin has a larger pool, is less crowded and is attached to the local shopping center.

I stayed at the Hyatt about 4 years ago and loved it. The hotel and the grounds are beautiful. However, we honeymooned at the Stouffer Weilea 13 years ago and it was absolutely gorgeous!! We went to see it the last time we were there and it was still beautiful. 13 years ago there were very few resorts at Weilea. When we returned 4 years ago, it had grown tremendously and probably is still growing. I think the Weilea area is the most beautiful. If you're going through Pleasant Hawaiian Vacations, which I strongly recommend, then you may be able to stay in Weilea area for about the same price as the Hyatt. We believe that Maui is the most beautiful place in the world--Kauai is a very close second!! We hope to return on our l5th anniversary. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Hi Robin the 2 hotels you mentioned are the 2 I am considering for my first trip to Maui. I have heard such great things about the Hyatt and the Renaissance. I have heard the beaches are much nicer in Wailea but there is much more to do in Kanappali. Can you give me some advice on what you would recommend?? Thanks.
