I am interested to hear if anyone knows about the Maui Hyatt's renovations. Hearing some conflicting information between the talk forum and the Hyatt's website. They say that the resort has been renovated while others say it is looking a little worn. Help!

Hi Steve!
Funny you should ask this question, as I was going to make a general posting tonight anyway about this very subject.
My husband and I are trying to plan a trip to Maui right now, but gee, the prices are really steep -- but that's another story. ANyway, our agent gave us a quote for Hyatt Maui, and it's running the same as for the Sheraton and the Kaanapali Alii condos. Anyway, that said, I noticed on the Hyatt's web site last night that the rooms looked totally different than when we stayed there a few years ago, and I e-mailed the hotel directly and they gave me a reply today that the renovations will be completed at the end of this month!
They also added that everything in ALL the rooms has been redone; the wallpaper, the beds are new, the carpets are new. I too had been hearing negative things about the Hyatt and so I was surprised when the pictures on their web site depicted entirely new-looking rooms. Hope that
clears up any confusion. Gosh, even though hubby and I want an ocean view, maybe we'll opt for the cheapie garden-view now that the rooms will be nice.
Oh, yes, I do wish to add that my husband's boss and wife stayed there last august and weren't very impressed with the rooms -- they said they were worn-looking . Check out the Hyatt's site. Just go to Hyatt and then type in Maui and you can look at Accommodations.

I stayed at the Hyatt last month, in a garden view room. It was very nice & pretty good-sized. The carpet was brand new (looked like berber), the bed was new, and the walls had been painted & updated with new art. I don't know what the rooms looked like before, but no complaints here.

Hi!
I was there for my honeymoon at the end of November 2000. It seems like they close an entire wing at a time so you don't have to look at all the scaffolding and mess. I am not sure if I was in a renovated room or not but it was beautiful. They actually upgraded us and we had an incredibly large ocean suite. Good luck and enjoy! In my opinion, it was worth the money!

Stayed in the Hyatt in Sept 2001. They were just about to start renovations. The rooms were dark, well worn and very much the same as 15 years ago. I would contact the hotel directly, because if you don't get a renovated room or they are still renovating, I would stay at the Sheraton! The prices for the rooms were just as high as the other resorts and they were disappointing. Make sure they guarantee that you will get a renovated room.
