Maui Hotels

We are considering a first trip to Maui in Feb. and wonder what would be a good hotel to stay at. Don't want to break the bank but would like a good hotel with a nice pool area and in the Kaanapali area. We have done AI's in Mexico and wonder if Maui would be about the same cost or more?? Would $2000/per person cover a 10 day holiday?? We would be cooking most of our own meals.

Jean,

You can plan on about $1,500-$2,000 per persona for a 7 day trip in Maui, depending on the resort. In Kaanapali I would recommend the Hyatt. It is by "Black Rock" which is a great snorkeling spot. They also have cliff diving there at night.

If your looking for something a little more upscale, I would recommend the Four Seasons in Wailea. It runs about $400 per night for a garden view room with a daily breakfast buffet which is spectacular! Service is the name of the game at Four Seasons.

One warning...I would think twice about the Westin in Kaanapali. Service is a foreign concept at the Westin. The location is great and the pools are wonderful, but you will sacrifice service. We stayed their once on our honeymoon and it was average. We went back two years later and it took a major turn for the worse.

Hope this helps...have fun Maui.

Aloha!

Can't really cook your own meals in a hotel room so what you're looking for is a condo in the Kaanapali area with a nice pool? Make sure you get Maui Revealed book and look at your resort for its proximaty to the beach by checking out www.wizardpub.com

Have an entertainment card? Try some of the Outrigger properties -- they have good condos for good prices ... we are staying at the Maui Eldorado in Kaanapali for $98/night
