Maui (help?)
We are thinking about going to Maui this year. (maybe in the fall) I wanted to know how much is on average is an air/hotel package to Maui costs for 2 adults?
We do not want to stay in any elaborate 5 diamond hotel, but something nice, not a rat trap. We are looking at the Kaanapali area.
Wailea seems to be more expensive. What would a 6 or 7 day trip cost us? We live in the midwest area so our flight would be 10 hours or less..
Please advise!!
Thanks!!

Kela,
The airlines are having a sale now - sale ends Aug. 6th - so you might want to make a decision and purchase tickets in the near future. You might consider staying at Grand Champions Villas in Wailea ($900. plus tax for a week) or at The Palms in Wailea . (probably priced about the same.) Both are about ten or eleven years old. Both are very spacious - 1 bedroom at G.C. is about 900 square feet. If you conside Grand Champions try to rent a unit directly from an owner - you can get phone numbers by calling the management office at G.C and asking for a list of owners who rent directly - also try for a unit on the golf course rather than a garden or tennis view.

I have a suggestion for a place to stay. It is the Napili Sunset. It is on a lovely stretch of beach and is very nice. www.napilisunset.com

Hello Fellow Midwesterners-
I also am planning a Hawaiian Vacation (and my wedding) in March. I have checked around quite a bit for fares and the best I've found have been on Travelocity. You should be able to do airfare for around $500 each if your dates are flexible. There is also the option of booking vacation "packages" which may include airfare/loging (or even car rental). Prices vary quite a bit so maybe check w/a travel agent?

Have you tried cheaptickets.com for your airfare? I've also found some really good deals there on hotel rates also. I also have the entertainment card. I didn't buy the Hawaii book, I already had a book from here where I live. But I called and got even better rates than the ones I already had reserved. For example, we are staying at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel on the BI...and we had a room reserved for $140/night. I called back and asked for the entertainment rate and got the same room for $70/night. Can't beat that!

My husband and I just returned from a trip to Maui in June. We stayed at the Grand Wailea in Wailea. We flew from St. Louis. The total for airfare, deluxe room for 7 nights and car rental was $5,500. We looked at some of the other accomodations while we were there. If we went back we would probably stay in Kaanapali. There wasn't much to do in Wailea. Also we would probably stay in a condo where we could eat some of our meals in as the food was very, very expensive. If you have any specific questions please feel free to E-Mail me as we saw almost all of the island we especially looked into the other places to stay.
