Maui- Four Seasons or Grand Wailea
My wife and I (young couple, early 30s) are going to Maui in March. We are considering the Grand Wailea or the Four Seasons. Have heard good and bad about both. Grand Wailea seems like an amusement park with lots of hidden charges. Four Seasons has a reputation for being stuffy and snobby. Myths or reality? I'd appreciate some advice. Are we too young for the Four Seasons?

Construction is going on at the Grand Wailea and it may be very noisy, you may want to call the hotel to check into this. Since you are traviling during spring break both hotels may be busy with families. I've written this before but I don't think the 4S hotel is filled with snobs, but rather wannabes. There are many in your age group at the 4S.

We were at the Grand Wailea the beginning of December and absolutely loved it! The pools were fantastic and we're an older couple but we're young at heart! The construction seems to be next to the hotel, not connected to it, so did not interfere with our stay in any way.
You may find it difficult to get reservations at this late date, but may find something on AA vacations.
We loved Longhi's Restaurant in the Shops at Wailea, next door. Their Amaretto Pawns were fantastic!
We also stayed in the Kaanapali area for a couple of days but did not like it as much as Wailea.

I am in my mid thirties and my family spent last Christmas at the 4 Seasons. We loved it and my husband had similar doubts about the clientele. We all had an awesome time with people of all ages and backgrounds (You didn't have to feel uncomfortable wearing Old Navy with flipflops...You're at the beach!)It is a beautiful property with great service...Go and have fun!

Judging by your demographics (30's, no kids) I'd recommend the Four Seasons which is quieter and has a more intimate feel than the larger GW. If you had a family I would have suggested the Grand Wailea as it has more amusements to entertain the kids.
