maui & kauai questions
We are heading out on our trip in 2 weeks and have a few questions? Do you purchase gin and wines at liquor stores or combination shops? Are the prices in line with typical mainland prices? On Kauai what helicopter tours have you experienced? We will be on Maui 6 days and Kauai 6 days and are looking forward to relaxing and doing a few "adventures." Thanks for any help you can send my way.

In Maui - don't miss The Plantation House for dinner on the northern part of the island. The view and food are outstanding!!!!
Also - the bike ride down the famous crater, Mt. Haleaka (i butchered the spelling) is awesome.
we went to maui 5 years ago for a honeymoon.

Here in Georgia we have the highest beer/wine/liquor prices in the States-sin taxes. I walked into the Keawakapu General Store (Mana Kai, south Maui), a convenience store, last November and bought a nice bottle of wine for the same price as we pay for that wine at Costco in Georgia.
We enjoyed immensely Safari Helicopter tours on Kauai in 1994. They're still flying, a good sign in a changing business. See the Waimea Canyon and hike the trail above Ke`e on the north shore. Take a Zodiac tour of the napali.
On Maui, try a boat/snorkel trip to Lana`i or Molokini and drive the road to Hana and beyond. Buy a good guide such as Maui Revealed and the analog for Kauai (wizardpub.com). Great directions, though not always appreciated by the locals.

My son went horse back riding on Kauai and went to area where they filmed Jurassic Park. He loved it. Check out http://www.keapana.com/
