Martha's Vineyard_Day Trip

Hiya!
I will be spending a family day on the Vineyard mid August and looking for the must sees. As well a recco for a scooter rental company. A few years back we went and rented bikes, and were exhausted before we saw anything. Hoping to avoid meltdowns and entertain some 19 year boys dreading the trip by scooter-ing around and picking some off the beaten track locations to see. We'll be getting to the island about 10a and have a looong day to fill. Thanks in advance!!

Menemsha, Gay Head, Chappaquidick via cute ferry from Edgartown.

The Vineyard and Nantucket are good places to rent scooters since the emergency rooms in both places are extremely experienced in dealing with scooter accidents.

scooters + gravel + sand = a long wait for the ambulance to get thru summer traffic, which could be boring for teenagers with few bike skills and severe road rash.

I love Chappy, and would start my treck to edgartown and a visitacross on the ferry, but correct me if I'm wrong (it;s been a few years) that Chappy has a lot of sand and gravel? Things may have changed. We love Menemsha for lunch, Gay Head and a wander by the Tabernacle and the camp houses in Oak Bluffs.

We took a ferry to Chappy, then did a kayak tour. It would keep the teens interested, I think. Lots of fun and very interesting guide.

Ok so I'm hearing you...not recommending scooters. Is there another option, more "exciting" than bikes cheaper than a jeep? How about places to eat?

The public bus system on the island may not be exciting, but it is efficient and a day pass is very cheap.
