Martha's Vineyard deserted in Nov?

I would love to get to Martha's Vineyard earlier in the fall but I can't get up there until the end of November. Are most stores and restaurants going to be closed? I know some of the hotels close in the middle of Oct. Thanks for any info.

I would like to know too, as I'm going in the beginning of Nov. Is MV going to be a ghosttown? Now I'm concerned that know stores will be opened. Thanks

Considering the fact that 15,000 people live there year round, there will be stores and restaurants open. Obviously, not as many as in summer, but Vineyard Haven and Edgartown are not ghosttowns in the winter. It will be quiet and lovely. Go anyway.

We went up for Thanksgiving a couple of years ago, and it wasn't deserted. It wasn't crowded either, just comfortable. Many of the shops were closed for the season, but they were mainly the more tourist oriented ones. We found many interesting "local" things to do and had a great time.

Well I just returned from MV this past weekend (9/11-15). I guess it depends on what you consider deserted. To me it was very isolated. Most ALL of the restaurants/shops closed early (whether tourist or not). Shops at 5pm & restaurants by 9pm. The weather was nice (mid 70's) but very cool at night.

If your trip is not planned yet, I would definately say WAIT!! But, I'm more of a late riser (9am) & didn't feel like having my day finished by 7pm every day. If you don't mind that, than I say......Go for it!

Do NOT stay at the Mansion House Inn on Vineyard Haven. Very noisy location. Much nicer places in Oak Bluffs. That was our favorite place of the three!
