Martha's Vineyard
As a gift, I am planning a trip for my Mother and I to Martha's Vineyard. We plan to fly into Boston and drive to the island. I am hoping someone can recommend a B&B that is would provide an unforgettable stay. We plan to stay on the island for 3-4 days. Lastly, any great restaurant suggestions. We will have a car to get around. Thanks!

A couple of things:
Betsy's reccomendations on ferry reservations are very good. I don't know when you are planning on coming, but if its this summer ferry and B&B reservations will be quite hard to come by - not to say you shouldn't try, just warning you. If there is no particular reason to fly into Boston, you'd be far better off flying directly to the Vineyard.
As for restaurants, if you do a search there is an extensive post about them on here already in which I and others participated. If you would like further
information please post.
And finally, in re: B&Bs, what do you like? Off the cuff I'd recommend Charlotte Inn, the Tuscan Inn, Lamberts Cove COuntry Inn, and the Inn at Blueberry Hill. THe first two are in Edgartown, the others are in the woods. I would be very surprised if any are under $300 a night.
I hope this helps.

Hi Elizabeth--I just came back from MV; Charles was very helpful on restaurants (as he said)--just scroll back and you'll see my original question.
I don't know where you are coming from, but if you still want to take the ferry to the island (IF you can get car reservations--I got mine for last week months ago)it is much easier to go from Providence--it is a great airport, you are closer to the Cape and the airfares are cheaper. Cape Air also flies to MV from there--15 minute flight if you can't get a car reservation.
On inns, we stayed at the Inn at Blueberry Hill and, I write this reluctantly, we were disappointed--for the $--$300--which is the going rate out there--I think you can do better. If others have opinions on this or other lodgings, I would welcome it. If you want more details on the Inn at Blueberry Hill, I am happy to provide. Suffice it to say, it was just okay and we expected great. Essential to have a car if you stay out there.
I have also stayed at the Victorian Inn in Edgartown--right in town, lovely, great breakfast.
On restaurants, we really enjoyed Jimmy Seas Pan Pasta in OB--fun and good food; we had a good dinner at Chesca's in Edgartown and also at Balance in OB.
Hope this helps.
Mary
P.S. If you give us a little more info. on what you want to do on the Vineyard, we can help more--i.e. is the beach important?, do you like to shop?, etc.

Charlotte Inn in Edgartown would be my choice. If you can't get a reservation there any Inn in Edgartown would be good. Edgartown is a beautiful place with excellent restaurants and it is walkable. Oak Bluff is fun for the young, lots of night life.
Tel no. of Charlotte Inn is 508-627-4151
Good luck
