Marshall House is in a good location near the City Market and about 5 blocks away from River Street. Plan on doing a LOT of walking.

In my opinion, Foley House for the $$ is the best, Mashall is just okay.

The Marshall house has a very eclectic restaurant and a nice quiet lounge. The rooms are very nicely appointed. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The only problem with Savannah is the College of art a design. College kids everywhere, with sketch pads. But that does not stop my wife a I from going several times a year. There is a great Tapas restaurant in City Market.

I can't imagine why SCAD kids would bother anyone. They're just part of the local color, and they can be *quite* colorful. People-watching is a favorite pastime, and they provide some interesting variation on what can otherwise be monotonous sameness to the touring crowds. Take a look at one of those sketch pads, too--there is real talent there (and Mom and Dad pay dearly for the lessons)!

As for Marshall House, I personally dislike the location, Broughton St being a sort of down-at-the-heels commercial segment of the historic district. They are making strides, but it is still, IMHO, not a desirable location. There are plenty of others to chose from in prettier sections of the historic district.

Foley House, mentioned above is great, and on one of the prettiest squares, Chippewa. I'd much prefer something like that location to Broughton!

IMHO Hyatt is really nice, if you want a great location with a very
predictable excelent service, without taking a chance on a B&B, that's your ticket.

The Hampton Inn - Historic District is one of the best-located hotels & it is not your typical Hampton at all. Prices are reasonable, rooms are huge & service is excellent.

I am a SCAD student and I do not see why the "college students everywhere" are a problem. It is practically us alone that keep this city alive when the tourist season is over. We have brought many things to do like the Film Festival and numerous galleries and shows at the theaters. Without us, I'm afraid that the city would have crumbled into the swamp like if was before we got here. You should be thankful. Take a look at our work sometime too. We are all here with a common passion for the arts and it shows.
