Marriott Long Wharf Hotel
Is this a good choice/location for a family vacation? We are traveling with our two kids, 8 & 11 and grandma. Are the standard rooms big or small? We won't have a car - it looks like a good location for public transportation & getting to some of the attractions. Can anyone give us more detail?

Mariott Longwharf,
Very good location. Near FAneuil Hall, shops, history, transportation and restaurants. I am not sure about room size and have not been there in several years; however, I can't imagine that it is not satisactory considering location and competition. Boston is definately a walking city, but with grandma, you are still close to everything.
Probably a very good choice. Any other recommendations would probably be a little saltier and not quite as convenient.
Try the Marshall House for a good lunch (next door to the Purple Shamrock). Great shrimp and clam chowder, sandwhiches as well.

This is a beautiful, wonderfully located hotel. For a fun dinner nearby on the wharf, try Joe's American Restaurant and Bar (not the one on Dartmouth St., but the one on the water). There is a man out front who hails cabs, which are an easy way to get around. You are very close to the North End, which has great Italian restaurants and desserts. Have fun!

Great choice for a family. I stayed there two years ago with my daughter and niece. Easy walking to aquarium, Faneuil Hall. Rooms were reasonably sized and nicely appointed. Concierge was very helpful. Since you are going with children you MUST take the Duck Tour of the city. Part bus/part boat it was fantastic for the kids, and they got to steer the boat! It was recommended by a Boston native. Contact concierge to book before you arrive because it is very popular. Have fun!
