Marrero's Guest Mansion - Key West

My husband and I just booked lodging, the end of April at Marrero's Guest Mansion - we've been to Key West once previously and stayed at the Crowne Plaza - any feedback on Marrero's would be appreciated. Thanks

My husband and I spend a lot of time in Key West and I've never heard a single thing about this place which really surprises me. I looked at their website and it looks really nice. Did you notice they have a clothing optional pool? That may or may not be something that interests you.

It used to be called Colours and was a gay guesthouse. I remember a coke machine that sold beers for a buck...I've been hooked on KW ever since. They did a great job re-doing the place and the location can't be beat. I recommend it highly to all my straight friends here in Ft Laud who are heading down there. When you stay at a big hotel in KW you might as well be on Miami Beach. Guesthouses are the way to go...very laid back. You'll know you went someplace relaxing and different if you stay here.

Wonderful! I'm surprised Marrero's is not mentioned on this board more often, too. We stayed there, with several relatives, when we got married in Key West. They couldn't have been nicer or more accomodating, and the pool area and porch are beautiful.

Thanks folks for the information - I too thought the website looked great, but sometimes they look better than reality if you know what I mean. We also loved the Crowne Plaza - rooms were small, but it's right in the heart of the action. We've never done a B&B or Guesthouse - this will be a really great experience. If anyone has other info for me - I'd love to hear it!

This is in reply to my own posting. Marrero's was terrific. We felt like we had our own pool and the house all to ourselves. (Yes, there is a clothing optional pool area and for someone who enjoys European sunbathing this was a plus.) We never encountered the famed ghost - though I got to scare the Haunted Bar Crawl crowd one evening and got a big chuckle out of that. The folks who own Marrero's are very pleasant and make you feel right at home.

I would also recommend the sunset snorkel and kyak outting on the DANGER -others were recommended but we ended up with the DANGER and had an incredible time - nothing DANGERous about it.

All in all, we can't wait to return to Southern Florida and the Keys.
