Marco Island, FL for Honeymoon

Marco is one of my favorite places. We like to take long walks on the beach and bath in the warm golf waters. The beach on Sanibelle is no where near as nice. The Marriotte is a nice hotel but I would suggest renting a unit from one of the time-shares on the island i.e, Eagles Nest, The Charter Club, or the Surf Club. Fort Myers is the best place to fly into but if the price is much higher than Ft. Lauderdale and you don't mind a 2 hour ride, you might consider it. If you choose the Sanibel area, opt for Captiva.

Diane,
Marco Island is beautiful! I've been there every year in November for the past 5 years and the weather is absolutely spectacular then. The days are 80-85 degrees and the nights are low-mid sixties. I would second the motion on staying at one of the time-shares. The eagles nest is very nice. I've stayed there twice. The Marriott looks nice, but I've never stayed there. I think there's a Hilton on that same stretch of beach that looks nice. Whichever you choose you're certain to have a great time! Be sure not to miss Stan's on Sunday's. Ask a local how to get there. It's a great outdoor atmosphere, right on the intercoastal waterway and everyone goes there on Sunday's in the afternoons to drink rum-runners and dance the buzzard lope. Don't ask. You just have to go and see and experience it!!! I personally prefer Marco to Sanibel any day. Also, don't miss Rookie's Restaurant and be sure to order the Jalepeno poppers -- they're great!!!!
Have fun, and congratulations!!!

Yes Marco has wide white beaches but I would much rather go to SOuth Seas Plantation in Captiva or anywhere in Sanibel. Marco is like a city where as Sanibel you feel like you are somewhere special. I grew up in Florida and Marco was a place people went to retire. It is pretty but the shopping is so nice on Sanibel and so many fun places to eat. Try flying into Tampa if the price is better. It will take you almost 3 hours to drive down but if the savings is better go for it. Congrats on your upcoming wedding.

Have been to Marco a number of times the past few years. Started at the Marriott, would not go back. Stayed at the Apollo condos twice, very nice. Rented through Century21 - check them out at www. c21marco.com/photom.htm - we are thinking about renting the Trent Court property. The pool looks super and would be perfect for honeymoon fun. Go for it. During the day, go to Naples and shop til you drop. All restaurants on Marco are very good. Try the Apollo restaurant.
