Manitou springs vs breckenridge

We were planning to spend three nights in Breckenridge but have become intrigued by the Florissant Fossil beds and Garden of the Gods after reading a description of the drive from Colorado Springs to Breck. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are these places really interesting or should we just stay in Breckenridge. I am leaning towards 2 nts in Breck and 1 in Manitou Springs so we could see the fossil beds? Is it worth the trip? What is Manitou Springs like in July? Do we need AC? Thanks

I personally would pick Breckinridge. Manitou and Breck are completly different types of towns and breck is much more of a mountain town than manitou. There are a few (pretty touristy) things to see and do near manitou but you could certainly take a day trip and drive down to see the fossil beds if you were really that interested. I don't know that it would be worth booking one night though, it would only be a couple hours drive and you could drive up one way and back another to see more sights.
