Major Yellowstone NP road construction: Summer & Fall 2009
For those of you planning to travel through/visit Yellowstone N.P this year in August and the fall, please note that the National Park Service announced yesterday that starting August 17th, the road between Norris and Madison Junction will be completely closed.

This will greatly impact anyone traveling from the Old Faithful or West Yellowstone area who is trying to get to Canyon, Roosevelt, or Mommoth Hot Springs...and visa versa. The normal 1 hour and fifteen minute drive from West Yellowstone to Mammoth/Gardiner could take as long as 4 hours once that stretch of road is closed.

We have been visiting YS since the early 1980s. There has been construction going on from day one for us, somewhere in the park.. The road over Mt Washington and Dunraven Pass was the last big road closure I can think of quickly.. Summer is short so they they are always working on the roads somewhere. There is also going to soon be road work on parts of the road (US-212) over the Beartooth Highway, they were doing some prep for this last year.. Guess we will just have a little more time to enjoy the drive in and arount Yellowstone this year.
