Madonna Inn, near Hearst Castle? Exactly where, please?
We'll be driving from SF to Hearst Castle during the first week of Oct. I've read reports here about the Madonna Inn. Would appreciate phone # and any other info. Is it in San Luis Obispo? How far is it from Hearst Castle? Thanks!

As I recall, it's just outside of San Luis Obispo - south I think, but it's been so long I'm not to be trusted on that! I haven't heard about that place in years. It was quite the wow! when it opened in the l960's - I remember going to dinner there as a teenager.
As for more info, map a AAA or similar guide will do the trick. Have a great trip - and maybe someone else can advise you, but I understand that reservations are recommended, and sometimes required, at Hearst Castle. It's very popular. A direct call to the park will probably fill in that info.

I'm going to try to post this one more time. Just did it and it shows 2 responses, but only one is actually on the response page.
Madonna Inn is in San Luis Obispo which is about 1 hour south of Hearst Castle (I think). Go to their web page: www.madonnainn.com They should be able to tell you driving distance. Definitely stay there. It is a hoot. Spring for the most expensive room available at the time as it will provide foder for conversation for the rest of your life. Don't miss the men's room in the restaurant. Women are allowed in with an escort depending upon its population. The urinal is unbelievable.
