Marie, try the Grand Hotel. Next door to the Pillsbury Center and one block off the Nicollette (sp?) Mall. I stayed there on business last year and it was fantastic.
THe hotel was formerly the Minneapolis Athletic Club. It was refurbished a few years ago and has both amazing rooms and a great staff. By the end of the first day, the entire staff - from the door man to the concierge - knew my name. They went out of their way to take care of me and make it a great stay. It's part of the Leading Hotels of the World.
Enjoy!

I have also heard good things about the grand hotel. Nearby is also the Marquette, part of the hilton chain. It is a nice place, especially if you can get upgraded to a suite. It is also adjoined (through the IDS center) to some of the best restaurants in Minneapolis.

The Grand is definitely the place you'll want to be. After that, The Whitney is very nice, but the location may not suit your needs as well. The Marquette is good, but nothing extraordinary. Stay away from the Hilton -- it's not bad but it's far from special.
Have fun!
