Lunch in New York City

Will be in NYC the weekend of June 24-27 and have Sunday matinee tickets to take the grandchildren (girl age 8 and boy age 6) to see Mary Poppins. Looking for suggestions for a nice lunch that is kid friendly and won't break the bank. We're looking for a non chain place that nice but not too fancy. Any suggestions are welcomed.

I assume you are looking in the Theater District. Try Virgil's, kids seem to like that.

Other places not in the Theater district include Lombardi's. Excellent pizza and they will let the kids look at (not in) the ovens if asked.

If you go on Friday not on the weekend Bubby's is the ultimate kids restaurant.

Whatever you do, do not take them to mars 2112 or Jekyll and Hyde. Tourist rip offs that are awful.

Angus McIndoe has a $14 prix fixe lunch for the adults and a kids' menu. http://www.angusmcindoe.com/menus.htm#1

Langan's does a jazz brunch on Sundays and also has a kids menu

Two Burger restaurants are 5 Napkin Restaurant and Shake Shack. They are both very inexpensive hamburger restaurants. I took my 14 year old son and he loved it.

Not necessarily for this lunch, but the 8yo girl will probably love visiting the American Girl store. It is an experience.

No. Lombardi's is not in the Theater District but they will be in NYC for three days, and I just assumed they would be venturing elsewhere.
