We went to Hawaii for the first time in November. We stayed at the Royal Kona and they do a luau right there several days a week. It is the only luau that I have ever been to so I have nothing for comparison. But we enjoyed it. Good entertainment, good food. They do the traditional roast pork in the imu, along with other Hawaiian foods and some salads. There is also a luau at the King Kamehamaha Hotel, which I've heard is good. Hope this helps!

Linda,

How did you like the Royal Kona. We were going to stay there in March, but after reading many negative reviews I rented a Condo instead. But I am very curious about the Royal Kona as it seemed to have a great location.

Just wondering,
jpm

Hi jpm--We like the Royal Kona pretty well. It's not fancy, but about what you expect for the price. When we stayed there, they were just getting started renovating the rooms (ours wasn't started yet) and I suppose they are finished with that now. It should be pretty nice. The location is very good. There are several restaurants within walking distance and even the downtown area of Kailua-Kona isn't too far. The staff are really great, especially at the activities desk. They really gave us some good ideas on what to do while we were on the island. All in all, I was pretty happy with it and would probably stay there again. Hope you have a great time in Hawaii!
