LI~first, try a shot of Limoncello

I take a stand on the side of letting your daughter know after the opthalmologist appointment(will flying raise the intraocular pressure). She might decide she doesn't want him to fly. She was married to the SIL who seems rather flakey. Check in with her on this one and then you won't feel so alone in the decision making. Besides, as a mom she'd want to know. Getting righteously pissed off at her former husband could be therapeutic.

Sometimes the things that seem taken care of and only to be commented upon can be a great source of distraction when one's nose (and everything else) is to the grindstone. The health care issues facing the in-laws (and your daughter and sil by association) are daunting. An eye injury to a teen-aged boy (who is still making new cells by the zillions) will be an ok diversion.

Now, take another shot of limoncello

Oh my, hello everyone! I am so overwhelmed by the thoughts, the suggestions, the love and care that you have all expressed I am actually sitting here crying at the moment.

How can I ever thank all of you. And I know that my problem, my family's problems, is nothing compared to what some families are going through, like the young boy that just died today at the Epcot Center at WDW. I can't even imagine what that family is going through. Or the family of the 18 year old daughter who is "missing" in Aruba.
And so many of you that have posted about family problems, operations, cancer etc.

To have so much care and attention directed to me has me sitting here actually shaking and wanting to hug all of you, I do not know how to thank all of you, but please know how much all your kind thoughts, prayers and advice means to me.

So, the update. My 14 year old grandson, Michael, was seen by the opthomalogist this afternoon. Two different types of eye drops were prescribed. One for swelling and one for infection. One every 2 hours and one every 3 hours. The Dr. said he would be fine in 2 to 3 days and that flying from CA to Utah would not be a problem. Not sure if the flight is something I would go along with but because of the Dr's advises I guess I am behind the eight ball. And Michael is feeling better tonight and wants to got to Utah for his cousins wedding so guess that is a good sign. However, my (can you believe this) my exsil wants to know if it is "OK" to buy Michael an airgun. I said "no, no and no". I cannot believe this question. I told him that this question would have to wait until Michael's mother returned home. Of course I already know her answer. What is with this guy? It blows my mind.

PamSF, I was hoping that you would post again with your thoughts. And you did. Thank you dear one!!!

So my daughter called me, and I did tell her about Michaels eye etc. I cringed telling her but she amazed me. She was so calm and asked approprite questions and we had a great talk. I hated telling her as the family situation in Rome is getting worse and worse. But NWA/KLM has been terrific working with them and they will be able to stay in Rome 9 days past the time they were due to come home.

May I say something. My 19 year old grandson Brian spent all day getting the garden taken care of properly (Scarlett has warned him she will be flying out if it the garden goes to pot, LOL), housework (actually for a 19 year old he has done a pretty good job of keeping the house in good shape), got all the errands done regarding his car that needs a new engine and other parts, keeping up on his brother Michael etc.

Finally got back to my place and he saw this beautiful thread. He said "Grandma, have you seen all the beautiful people that have written you messages??". I walked over to my computer and must say I almost started crying. Brian said "Grandma, I can't believe how beautiful the people are on Fodor's, this is an unusual message board!. My gosh, you will have to tell my Mom and my Papa about all these messages, they are awesome".

Well I sure agree with my Brian, you are all so awesome! I have no idea what I have done to deserve all the love, thoughts and prayers that you have directed to me and my family but be assured it will never be forgotten.

And to all of you that have so many more problems and worries than I do, please know that you are in my prayers and thoughts. Best wishes and peace to everyone.

What a beautiful story about your grandson Brian. It almost made me cry. He sounds like an incredible young man. And he is right about this forum-despite some of the petty arguments that go on, people here are very supportive.

Glad to hear that your other grandson's eye is going to be OK. My mouth almost fell open when you mentioned that your ex-SIL wanted to buy him an airgun. Don't you wonder what some people have for brains?

Also glad to hear that your daughter took the eye story so well. Even though you didn't want to bother her, I know as a Mother I would be upset if I hadn't been told. I am so sorry that the situation in Rome is getting worse. I will continue to say my prayers for them and for your whole family.

Oh TandooriGirl and Paula, my neighbor just came over to talk to me and see how things were, and I decided to go on our Fodors Board one more time and saw both of your post.

TandooriGirl, my love to you also and Paula, thank you. I cringed telling my daughter as you can imagine but I feel more calm that I did. My daughter is awsome. I don't know what I ever did to deserve her. And her oldest son Brian is the same way.

For everyone, my late husband always said "the family that works together will always be alright". It is so true. I would add "the person that has carying and loving friends will also be alright". I feel truly blessed with all of you.

May everyone care about each other. Peace!

LeeAnne, thank you! I was going to go to bed but can't seem to get sleepy. Again, all the warm wishes and prayers mean so much to me. Words can never express my appreciation.

Phew! Am glad to hear that M's eye is going to be ok--for some reason my gut told me it would be fine but it's better when a professional backs me up!!

I'm glad Michael is feeling better already, and you've done the right thing telling your daughter.

Airgun? Sure, if your exSIL delivers it to your door so you can shoot him

Hi LI,

My Mom has been here from out of town so I have not been on here much during this last week, but I just want to let you know again that I am thinking of you and your family.

Wishing you >- Tiff

My goodness, I just got caught up on all of this! What an ordeal your family has right now but you are all pulling together. Your daughter and SIL have rallied around his parents, your oldest grandson is showing great responsibility, your younger grandson wants to go to his cousin's wedding and is back in your loving care in the meantime. Your husband would be proud to know how you are all holding up and supporting each other.

I'm sending your prayers and good wishes too. Everything will be fine and life will continue its phases.

LoveItaly, always remember that you always get back what you give! We people on this message board are only returning what we have gotten from you!

I am glad things are okay with your grandson. I can't imagine what he(exsil) is thinking asking if he can still get the air gun!!! HUH?? Your exsil sounds like a winner. If he did buy it anyway, I would soon make it dissappear for good.

Hi LoveI - so glad things are a little bit calmer for you. The people here really are wonderful, aren't they?

And I must tell you - you've done an amazing job to have such a wonderful daughter and grandsons! It's just so nice to see that these days.

Blessings for all of you from Texas...
