Looking for vacation rental - lakeside in CA

Hoping to rent a house on a lake for a family get-together this summer. There would be six adults (three couples) and four children (ages 8, 6, 3, and 2). We would like to rent a house with at least three bdrms for about a week.

We all live in the Monterey Bay area, and with the children along, we'd like to keep the driving under five hours, if possible. So - we're probably looking at the Sierra foothills, somewhere near Yosemite or Calaveras Big Trees. Not sure what lakes are there - not looking for reservoirs that don't allow swimming.

Anyone who knows the area and can make a recommendation? Thanks!

What about Lake Tahoe? I know you asked for a house, but you could also look at this resort, right on the lake: http://www.sunnysideresort.com
We ate lunch on their deck overlooking the lake, and it was perfect.

Have you thought about Lake Tahoe? Donner Lake/Tahoe Donner in Truckee? We are going for 10 days to Incline, north shore. Right on the lake is $$$$, so we stay up the hill. Up above Sonora is Pinecrest, Long Barn. Hwy 41, outside Yosemite is Bass Lake.

I don't know if the unit configurations would work for you, but when our kids were in elementary school, we went here with other families (each had a separate condo, though) at the end of the summer. It was a fabulous place to vacation especially with kids (everyone hung out on the big lawn after dinner - the kids to play, the adults to drink (coffee or alcohol) and socialize, nothing formal).

I also thought of Bass Lake. I can't give you a specific recommendation, but I grew up nearby and there are a lot of rental options.
