Looking for really nice accommodations in Destin?

We usually go to Pensacola Beach and stay at the Hampton on the beach there, but unfortunately going back there is not an option after the hurricane, but we fell in love with the panhandle area.
We have driven through Destin, and saw mostly non hotel accommodations, but renting a condo makes me nervous from all the stories I have heard of them not being all that great when you get there. Plus there is only 2 of us, and most condos have more than 1 bedroom, which we don't need.
Does anyone have any suggestions. We want to stay on a beachfront property, if possible.

You could try the Hilton in Sandestin. What ammenities are you looking for? We have stayed in many condos - villas in Florida and the Caribbean and have never had a bad place. Some were just better than others - most of the time we got more than we expected. There are also a lot of one-bedroom condos in the Destin area as well. If you decide you are looking for a condo in that area - let me know what exactly you want and I might be able to let you know if any of the ones we have stayed in would meet you needs. We visit that area frequently as we have relatives down there - but don't want to stay with them

I agree with the previous posts ... SanDestin is where you want to be.
When you're not on the beach, check out Baytowne Wharf. (www.baytownewharf.com)

We were in Destin in March 2004 and stayed at the Holiday Inn. It was OK with immediate beach access and a pool.

Also....
In the past we have stayed at some of the Abbott properties. They have hotel style accomodations as well as the regular condo style. They also have small cottages. Check out the website to se all the properties. I think it's resortquest.com or resort-quest.com. Google it and it will come up.

I agree that the Baytown Wahrf area is great

Thanks all of you for your responses.
Here is what we won't bend on in accomodations.
It must be really clean, and smell clean. I have heard some smelling like mold and mildew, and I couldn't handle that.
I would like a decent size heated pool(we go around april and may, so the pools are still really cold if not heated), and beachfront with a balcony.
Do I stand a chance, and what should I expect to pay?
We paid 149 a night in Pensacola Beach for everything I just mentioned including free breakfast, and being it was a Hampton, maid service.
I would appreciate any help you could give us!

Oh I forgot to address Big Red.
You said the Holiday Inn was "OK". I want to lay my head down at night in something a bit nicer than OK.
OK's scare me. LOL
