Looking for Lodging in Chicago while studying at 2nd City

Hi!

My friend and I are going to attend 2nd City school for 1 week in August. I understand that this is in Old Town.. We are shopping for a hotel on a budget......and are hoping to get something inexpensive by bidding on Priceline. What district or area of town would we put into Priceline for the closest location to 2nd City? We don't want to have to travel all over the place to get to class by 10am. If anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate your input. We are not youngsters so a hostel or couch surfing just won't work.

Thanks in advance!
Amy

Second City is easily accessible via public transit. The Magnificent Mile/River North areas have the largest concentration of hotels. From there, you could take the Number 22, 36, 151 or 156 bus or the Brown Line train and be at Second City in about 15 minutes. For complete transit info and a trip planner, check www.transitchicago.com. You may want to also purchase a transit pass. They're available at the airport rail stations, Walgreens, CVS, Dominick's and Jewel stores. A 3-day pass is $14 and a 7-day is $23.

There are a couple hotels in the Gold Coast, which is just south of Old Town and the Belden-Stratford is an apartment-hotel about a mile north of Second City overlooking Lincoln Park.

To see lists of winning bids so you are not tempted to overbid, check out www. betterbidding.com as well as www.biddingfotravel.com. you can see the areas on their maps so once you know where Second City is, it is easy for you to see how far/close the zones are.

Betterbidding.com even has a calendar view so you can see exact dates quickly. You can also put "chicago" in the search feature and only posts with the word chicago come up.. so you don't have to go searching through all of the Illinois bids.

Hotwire MAY have something you like also.

Most of the major hotels are in the Loop or River North. Belden Stratford, the Willows, City Suites, Best Western Hawthorne and Days Inn Lincoln Park are all within a short bus or Brown line ride, too, and Old Town isn't too far from the Loop or River North. Don't know about the prices.
