We're looking for campgrounds in Wisconsin located on a lake/river where motorized boating is allowed? Been to Castle Rock Lake near Mauston. That's great, but we're looking for other alternatives as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The only place I can think of where we go camping with motorized boats is on Lake Wisconsin outside of Poynette. Get in the water, find a sandbar, and camp!!! It's fun, if you're in to that kind of thing. Make sure you have an air mattress though. Don't know what the lake levels have been like this year with all the rain though!!! Good luck!

The best way to describe it is to look at a "Wisconsin Atlas & Gazetteer" since I don't know where you're coming from. In ours, the area I'm talking about (Poynette/Lake Wisconsin) is on page 35. You'll see all the boat launch sites -- trailerable. We always launch off from -- take CS from Poynette, and then a right on V (going north). There's a bar/restaurant right there and a boat launch with parking for trailers. I think you can just park. Don't have to pay or tell anyone. But if you look at the atlas, you'll see it all clearly. It's a man-made lake. So when it's low, it can be tricky. There are stumps and things. But if it's too high, the sandbars will be scarce. We always stay on one down the Wisconsin River on the right, after you go by a bunch of rocky cliffs. Just down from the Interstate bridge. Beyond the Interstate bridge can get quite shallow. So would suggest boating from the Interstate bridge (east) to the dam in Sauk City (southwest) when boating. You may even get to see the Merrimac Ferry crossing as you go down river. Good luck. One other thing, Mary. When looking at the atlas after I sent the last post, I noticed there's a campground symbol just before you'd take that right on V. So there must be one around there, but still close to the launch site. Good luck.
