Looking for an itinerary for the East Coast in October

Looking for an itinerary for the East Coast in October? We are flexible with where. Just haven't been anywhere on the East coast besides Maryland & Deleware. Looking to go further north.

Is October a good time to go?

can you swim in the water in early October?

Thanks

1. Fly to Bar Harbor.
2. Drive I95 south to Philadelphia.
3. Fly to Washington DC.
4. Drive I95 south to Key West.
5. Swim.
6. Fly home and phrase a better question.
7. Alter itinerary.
8. Repeat.

The begining of October is the fall season here, and it means that the trees are changing colours and that means that it has been freezing at night that starts the change in the leaves.

The fall is very pretty in the Northeast, and Foliage watching becomes very busy, so if you are planning on a trip you need to make reservations now.

I would head to Boston, and maybe drive from there north to New Hampshire and Southern Maine. Lots to see and do in the area and pretty towns all along the way, like Swampscott, Marblehead, Rockport, Salem, (MA) Kennybunk (ME)

There are lots of B&B's in the area but again, you need to book quickly.

Have a great time.

I agree with the previous entry. Maine or NH are so beautiful with foliage at the 1st week in October. I personally would pass on Salem, MA too many other places to see. Boston area is still nice to walk around at that time of the year. North Conway, NH is a beautiful area (especially for foliage and there is outlet shopping there)--NH is a tax-free state.. Kennebunkport/Kennebunk both nice-- Camden Maine-- Don't miss eating at Cappy's. Boothbay Harbor in Maine nice-- Drive RT one in Maine nice and scenic!! Have FUN!!

If you aren't booked in the NE by this time last year you are already screwed due to the 'leaf-watchers'. I would suggest going south. The Outer Banks are great that time of year assuming there are no hurricanes.
