looking for advise
My husband and I have just been given the opportunity to stay at a condo in Maui. Lokking for advise on what we should not miss while we are ther. Also since we will be stopping in Honolulu first we are thinking of spending 2 or 3 nights there first. We are not looking to spend a fortune, but after travelling all the way from the east coast we want to get the real feel of the islands. Any advise is appreciated. We will be travelling the beginnning of September.

Cmon folks, Jerseygirl made a reasonable request for information and 3 postings later, she still has not received any travel info.
Who cares how she spelled a word? Maybe it was just a typo. Why not supply her with some of the information that she is requesting? If I knew anything about Hawaii, I would be happy to offer her advice regardless of how it was spelled.

Dear jerseygirl: if you haven't posted here much, rule #1 is ignore all the extraneous commentary (much of which is intended to entice you to retort). When it's ignored, the extraneous commentary dies quickly.
As for your questions, first I'd recommend that you do a little reading through the archives, which have an extremely large amount of the type of useful info you're seeking.
My opinion is that you should skip Oahu as a first time visitor to the islands...unless you have an interest in seeing non-Honolulu Oahu. Honolulu just isn't worth a couple precious days out of your trip. It's a big city of high rises and crowded beaches and it doesn't compare with the rest of the islands. Anywhere else in the islands will be more memorable.
I'd go straight to Maui. If you want to maximize your experience there, stay at your condo for several days then stay a couple or 3 days elsewhere. If your condo is near Kaanapali, consider staying awhile near Wailea also, or vice versa.
Will you have a car? Makes a big difference as to what other advice I'd give about restaurants, etc.
Personally I didn't think the drive to Hana was all that great and it shoots a whole day. If your trip is a week or less think it over carefully.
Going up the volcano at sunrise (Haleakala) is quite popular, but I've not done it.
Let us know what the particulars are, such as where the condo is. Good luck with your planning.
