Looking for a place to stay in SF

My finacee and I are planning on going to San Franscisco next July for our honeymoon. We are completely clueless as to were to stay. We do not want a bed and breakfast (we both smoke and most do not allow it) and we want to splurge a little bit but nothing over 200 dollars. How long should we stay in SF to see the sights. We would also like to take some day trips. Thanks for your help in advance. jane

Well, this suggestion may go directly to the recycling center as it is a B&B of sorts and smoking is probably frowned on though it is worth inquiring.I'm not sure what their policy is. The Washinton Square Inn is my favorite location in all of SF. Right on Washington Square in North Beach in the HEART of SF. IMHO there is no better location for a stay here. You are across from historic St Peter's and Paul's Church , seniors from Chinatown do Tai Chi in the park everymorning just outside your door. You have North Beach , easy walk to Chinatown and the wharf area.More fantastic resaurants in walking distance than you could shake two sticks at{but do leave out the wharf as a dining possibility!} If you can get around thesmoking issue I would seriousy consider this. Do a search for it on bayarea.citysearch.com. Also do a search for their "site map" , difficult to find otherwise, for excellent visitor information. Good Luck!

Opps! You just need to click on "Visitors and Getaways" at the top of the citysearch site for an excellent source of info.

I assume your concern about smoking has to do with smoking in your room as smoking in indoor public places is pretty much "outlawed" everywhere there.Restaurants , even bars. At least that was our experience. At least you're not going out during the rainy season. Steping outside for that smoke can be real wet and cold.

I think you'll have to ask specifically at each hotel as to their regulations about smoking. California is not smoker friendly. Try the White Swan Inn, the King George, the Sir Francis Drake, the Prescott--all should be in your price range but can't advise as to smoking.
