My daughter (20) and I are hoping to take a long weekend somewhere, probably Sept or Oct. She is in NYC, I"m in Austin. I have more schedule flexibility than she does.

We would like to relax (pool and/or beach) shop, dine, see some sights. My ideas so far are Phoenix, Charleston, Ft. Lauderdale. Any other ideas?

For that time of year Charleston or Amelia Island would be near perfect (assuming no hurricanes of course). I say that only because I am sure some fatalist will bring that up. Or, what about Puerto Rico ?

Bermuda. Fort Walton Beach. Hilton Head. New Orleans. Santa Fe.

Southern California- San Diego or the Orange County area would be great and I have done California as a long weekend before.

What about Miami?

Sept and early Oct are truly lovely in Southern California - my favorite time @ the beach. Orange County or San Diego.
