Loews Coronado Island Resort

Has anyone stayed here, or do you know anything about it? We are planning a trip to SD in May and looking for relaxing, resort type accomodations. We learned that the Hotel Del is under construction, and are looking for alternatives...
Thanks!

We were there last fall. It is a nice hotel, the pool area was great, except there was no service at the pool since it wasn't very crowded (midweek). The food at the cafe was good. Their fancy restaurant is supposed to be good, but we had our 6 month old with us so fine dining was out. Two negatives though. It is a sprawling resort, so the walk to the lobby can take a while depending on where your room is. It is not very close to the "downtown" portion of Coronado island. About 5 miles? Anyway, you need to take a car and find a place to park when you want to go into town. Hotel Del is right on the edge of town, so you can walk everywhere.

Isn't there a Marriott on Coronado as well? Which is better Loews, or Marriott?? In my research, both are about the same price......

Anyone know??

My husband and I stayed at the Coronado Marriott last week for a business function. It was okay, but nothing special. There is a pretty good Italian restaurant around the corner, though I can't remember the name 1 week later. The hotel Del is a much better choice in every way. The Marriott is on the bay with a view of the bridge - easy access to mainland.

Stayed at the Loews last year. Although not as nice as the Del Coronado, the pool area was beautiful and it was relaxing. A little further from the city, though. All in all, a pleasant stay.

Have Fun!
