Lodging in Lake Powell / Page, AZ
We (DH, DS9, DS7) are taking a 1/2 day float tour down the Colorado from Lake Powell / Page 4/9/07. (BTW - I just got an e-mail that a NEW company will be taking over in 2007 - Colorado River Discovery, LLC.)
We plan to spend the night in Lake Powell before our tour. (Thanks to feedback on a previous post, it sounds like there are some good things for us to do/see in the short time we will be in the area!)
My question is: Where to stay?? There are lots of economical hotels - Best Western, etc...all around $40 - $70/night. A Courtyard for $85 & The Resort at Lake Powell at $110. Wide range, eh? Can anyone who has stayed at any of these properties give me an idea if the extra $$ is worth it for the resort? Is it updated/modern? (Hopefully, it is clean and well-maintained!) What about the economy lodges?
All feedback is appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I was not impressed with the Lodge at Lake Powell (formerly Wahweap Lodge). However, we stayed there before the conversion and it could be different now. It was a non-descript motel on the shores of the lake, but with very nice views from the restaurant.

Hi!
We stayed there just a few weeks ago. It was OK - not very different than your standard motel except it was right there on the lake. It was clean. The restaurant was very good and we watched the sunset over the lake - very pretty. I'm only familiar with the Resort at Lake Powell - we didn't go into Page so I'm not sure how it compares to the rest of the motels there.

I totally agree with the above posters. We stayed there in june and while we greatly anticipated our stay, it was underwhelming at best. Had driven by on previous trips out west and thought it would be 'special' - but it wasn't. Maybe we expected too much? Next time, would stay at the Courtyard in town. Hope that helps.

We stayed at Courtyard and liked it a lot. If you don't have Marriott Visa you can apply for one and get free night at this hotel:

We are planning on arriving into Page and taking the Antelope Canyon tour in the afternoon and then doing the float trip early the next morning. Which location is best for these activities...the Best Western Arizona Inn or the Courtyard? We are a family with three teenagers.

Page is a small town, it doesn't matter where you stay for your activities, it is all a short drive.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express which was a very central town location. Very clean nice rooms, nice staff and within walking distance to a good Mexican Restaurant (Fiesta Mexicana) and the Dam Bar and Grill. Nice place, good casual food. If you want to be able to walk a little (If you're planning on a couple beers or margaritas) this was a nice place.
