Lodging Grand Canyon South Rim

If at all possible stay in one of the onsite lodgings. We did not...could not get room with king bed for my husband and me. So stayed at the Grand Hotel at the Grand Canyon. Big mistake. The hotel was ok but the trip back and forth to the canyon was much, much longer than expected and we did not go at time with much traffic. The whole experience would have been much better if we had just stayed onsite.

Yes, and if you go again, keep calling for lodging in the park. People and tour companies reserve rooms way in advance and some find they can't make the trip as the time gets close and will cancel.

If you must make a reservation outside the park, make sure you can cancel it without penalty so you can grab one of the last minute cancellations in the park.

Completely agree and you can check on line on a regular basis. We got a great canyon view room at kachina mostly because I checked multiple times. Bed preferences are very personal but I have to admit I'd give up the king bed for a night or two for that incredible view and the convenience of being in the park.
