Lodging for visiting Kings Canyon & Sequoia NP

Hello, I just realized that the lodging inside the parks is at a high elevation (over about 6000 ft).
We can't stay overnight at higher elevations so need something lower (4000 max) and yet still close to the parks so we can 'day trip'.
Where would you suggest we stay? Visalia? or?
Prefer not to change hotels for a short 2-3 day visit. Will be just driving to see the sites but no hiking/walks b/c spouse can't do that anymore.
Also, is this time of year good or should we wait til next Spring?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Look at Three Rivers for hotels.

Visalia - no.

Three Rivers -- better, especially if you need low elevation. However there is extensive road construction on the General's Highway so be prepared for delays touring around.
