Charlotte is also a place with many "gentleman's clubs" with "live nude girls!" which makes it pretty hypocritical IMO. This is a weird state, and you have some strange trade-offs to live here.

Thank heavens, we finally got those tacky "dead nude girls!" places closed.

...but my "live dressed girls" place seems not to be doing too well.

I moved from Northern NJ to Charlotte 4 years ago. My husband and I are in our late 20s, and we love it here. Raleigh just doesn't have the same appeal for some reason. I don't think the traffic here is bad, but I'm from NJ, remember? Cost of living here is slowly creeping up, but much cheaper than NJ. The people are great. We had no trouble meeting people - both other transplants and NC natives. Lots of jobs here, that's for sure! The restaurants here keep getting better (when we first moved here, we were real homesick for some good old NJ Italian!). Again, I prefer CLT to Raleigh, but that's just an opinion. CLT is fun because there is always something new coming to town. When you visit, make sure you talk to people for suggestions on neighborhoods, restaurants, and things to do. That's what we did, and we found that most suggestions we got were great. Good luck!

I agree w/most of the other posters. I reside in Charlotte & am from the Midwest. Traffic is not bad (compared to what you are used to), but we combat that by living close to uptown & walking to a lot of places. Charlotte is much more a city than Raleigh. USAir does have a monopoly but by the same token you are in a hub which relates to many direct flights & great e-savers. Raleigh tends to be more of a college type town & area due to the preponderance of colleges in that area. I'm not sure what you do for a living but Charlotte is more Financial/Banking Raleigh more pharmaceuticals/etc. We would more than welcome some more Yankees down here & everyone is very friendly.

It kills me that all the nay-sayers & idiots can never seem to remember their real e-mail address.
