live music near asheville nc area

hello all--we're vacationing in the asheville, nc area next week and were wondering where we could listen to live music (any kind) and get a nice dinner, with our 14 year old son...bars are OK as long as they allow kids in! the town of black mountain looks interesting..any thoughts from the asheville experts out there? (unfortunately, we're going to miss belle chere)
thanks!

Grey Eagle for a "nice dinner"...hmmm
Most Friday and Saturday nites there is live music of some sort at many places:
In Asheville - Lobster Trap(seafood), Barley's (pizza), Jack of the Wood (Irish/pub fare)
I would check out the Take 5 section of the Asheville Citizen times (www.citizen-times.com) for local listings or the Mountain Express www.mountainxpress.com
For an interesting experience, although your 14 yr old may be either mortified or a little too interested...Jerusalem Garden has live music and belly dancers! It will be the weekend of the Arts and Crafts Festival in Biltmore Village - high art end and well crafted work.

check this website
http://www.purpleonionsaluda.com/music.html
www.saluda.com

Purple Onion in Saluda serves delicious food and we often saw there kids of your son's age.
Saluda is a very interesting little town and if you want to arrive earlier before your dinner go to Pearson's Falls.

Make reservations for dinner.

You may also include visit to downtown Hendersonville where they have creative display of colorful bears along Main Street

Another nice stop is Carl Sandburg's Home in Flat Rock
www.nps.gov/carl/

I don't know how many days you are going to be in the area but this could be all day trip, if you are interested in venturing beyond Asheville
