Highboy, that is hilarious ! I can just picture that..what a grin. Did he stop? Scarlett, there are so many homeless creatures running around..lots of squirrels with babies, cats with kitten etc...too sad. This whole situation is too sad IMO.

I apparently made an impression on him...because he stopped with the racket. We borrowed a window a/c unit last night and finally had a peaceful night's sleep. I think that an a/c (window unit) purchase is in the very near future!!!!
Hope you stay high and dry with this next storm. I think we were somewhat ignorant of Ivan due to the power outage...or maybe I was in denial.

highbay, lol, we were ignorant of Ivan also, we just got power back on yesterday and I am already sick of him!

We just had one of those Florida residents who no one wants in their house a very large palmetto bug.
Do they always fly AT a person or was the Yankee being attacked?
Is this some sort of plague, first the storms then the bugs?

Scarlett:
It is definitely a conspiracy. If they hear the "slightest" northern accent...you are dead meat. Tell the yankee to keep quiet until all threat of lose wildlife is under control.
Seriously...those are the "nastiest" of bugs and I don't wish them on enemies.
It looks like with the latest projections, ya'll might do okay with Ivan. I do not wish him on anyone.
Did you have a generator to get you through the worst of the power outages?

No, no generator.
Remember, we were told that Jax doesn't get hurricanes so we never knew about generators until too late.
I was lucky that our contractor came by and boarded up a wall of windows that were making me very nervous.
The Yankee is not talking much these days anyway- he is smoldering about being lured here under false pretenses
He is also convinced, the Palmetto was out to get him

How long were you out of power? We were out for 95 hours. We got our generator in 1998 and have NEVER had to use it. I can attest that it was well worth if only for the food we have in our freezer. (I always buy meat on sale!!!) And....last night that window a/c was my BEST FRIEND!!!! Our two pups thought it was as well. My poor girls have been panting for 4 days....not to mention the "freaked out" behavior.

Power went out Saturday and back on yesterday
We threw out the contents of a full refrigerator and freezer.
Pup was not thrilled but as long as he could stay stuck to me, he was OK.
If I were to stay here , I would definitely get a generator and metal shutters.

I hope you do not get too rattled by these storms. They are normally not sooooo intense, and are not normally back-to-back like we are seeing right now. We have talked about storm shutters for a very long time (we built our house on the Gulf of Mexico 10 years ago, and have never come to a concensus about exactly what kind of shutters to buy!!!) I am feeling quite brain retarded for these discussions now. WHY couldn't we make a decision?
Please don't let the Yankee beat himself up over the decision to move to JAX. This is really not the norm and is the exception.

...what we did differently from Charley to Frances (Orlando)our power was out for 3 days this time....freeze many bottles full of water to assist with ice in the cooler, freeze water bottles with coffee and blender juice drinks that will defrost for a treat each morning...get lots of charcoal to grill food...use a generator at night (our business uses it during the day) for a fan to sleep (it is so hot and there is no circulation)and garage the cars, one here, one at our business warehouse...that was a piece of mind...also bought a chainsaw attatchment for the weed eater so we can reach the high large oak branches hanging down half broken and chop them all up...but lots of paper plates, cups & bowls so that when power is back there is not a huge mess to clean up...do tons of laundry and clean everything thoroughly before it's supposed to hit...buy bird food for squirrels and birds that surface after the storm and fill the feeders...get some good books to read...

Adding to Wednesday's list: have a radio with AM/FM that runs on batteries (or a 6" B&W TV which I saw at Home Depot), buy a flashlight-headband that you wear so you will have hands-free light, gas the cars, fill the bathtub with water, buy a phone that doesn't need to be plugged in, have board games for the kids, buy plastic sheeting and duct tape in case a window breaks, buy enough food for two days.
