Length of stay in Hawaii
Hello,
I am planning a trip to Hawaii and trying to figure out the right length of vacation to consider. I was thinking 10 days - is that long enough? (of course I would like to stay for months, but that's not an option!!)
Also, has anyone ever been there in October? Is the weather decent?
Thanks!

10 Days is great, but figure out where you want to go. If you want to island hop try to do Kona (the Big Island), Maui and Kauai.
If you can, 4-5 days on each would be optimal but if you can't think about what is important to you such as day trips, beach and sun, quiet, romance, active adventures...of course, you can get that anywhere on the islands. We went for our honeymoon 6 years ago and spent 3 1/2 weeks on those islands..it was awesome! Good luck!

10 days is great (14 is fabulous...), but I wouldn't do 3 islands in 10 days. 2 at the max, because you're losing so much time moving from island to island, and with the security at both the Honolulu Airport and the Maui Airport being so intense, you need to be there 1 1/2 to 2 hours prior to the flight. Not to mention the time getting to the airport, flying (minimal, I admit) and then driving to the next hotel. You're losing too much time in transit.
In addition, so many hotels give you a free night if you stay 4 or 5 nights, it's worth it to stay the extra time.

I had 10 nights in Hawaii to play with. Was originally going to split it up 3 nights on Oahu and then 7 nights on Maui.
Through suggestions here, I opted to stay in two different locations on (just) Maui, and save Oahu for a different trip. Breaks down to 3 nights in Hana and then a week on the beach in the west.
4 more days for me, and when we return I'll let you know how that logic turned out!

sara,
Ten days on one island is great. We've done 10- 14 days on Kaua`i for the last three years and it makes for a very relaxing and rejuvinating vacation.
Paul,
Have a great time in Hana. It will be low-key, but oh so lovely!

Thanks Bill...
After working long and hard and enduring Michigan's entire winter season, I am really looking forward to the relaxing and exotic trip. Mmmmm... a private outdoor shower and hot tub in a private house hanging on a cliff looking out at the water and smelling the surrounding fresh flora. Yup... that's the ticket.
Can't wait to try Kaua`i someday too!

10 days would be great.
I would chose maybe 2 islands to explore but NOT the Big Island as it is too big to really enjoy it unless you spend all 10 days there.
I have been to Kauai ,I would put Kauai on your list.It is beautiful and 5 days would be good to explore it.It is not as commercialized as Oahu. And then I would chose Maui,a little more commercialized than Kauai. It just depends on what you like , if it is natural beauty you like (snorkeling to explore the oceanlife, birds, etc) I would not miss Kauai. If you like to surf and like the nightlife than Oahu is good for that. The North Shore is well known for surfing.
On Kauai ,points of interest would be Kee' beach on the north shore (early in the morning)for snorkeling,
Waimea Canyon-known as the grand canyon of the Pacific-check the weather for fog before going.
Wailua Falls-beautiful famous waterfall(Fantasy Island 70s TV Show)
Spouting Horn-South Shore , lava tube that is really neat.
Queens Bath-Princeville-natural pool that is good for snorkeling.
The West Coast for hiking and breath taking greenery .
I would take a helicopter tour to really see the island.I have a friend that use to live there and she says that a heli. tour is a must.
You can also Kayak the (Wailua?) river it is nice.
I think that October would be a GREAT time to go the weather in June when we went was a little on the HOT side.
Where ever you go I hope that you enjoy it!!
One more thing, Coconuts restaurant in Kapaa has great food.
