Leaving Vegas

We will be leaving Vegas on Friday, October 27, on a 4:20PM flight. We are staying at the Monte Carlo. Since checkout is 11:00AM, is there a safe place to leave luggage until we are leaving for the airport about 2:00PM.

The MC will be happy to keep your luggage until you depart for the Airport. This is a common practice, particularly in Vegas.

You can always ask for late checkout - like maybe 1 p.m. We frequently do that in Vegas and some hotels will gladly do it for you if their schedules permit. If not, they will hold your luggage for you, just ask about that service.

Most Las Vegas hotels will give you late check-out if it's possible, but they will also charge. I can't speak for the specific policy of the Monte Carlo, however.

Every hotel in Las Vegas will hold onto luggage for you for free (tip expected when you pick it up). You usually drop it off right at the outside of the main entrance next to the valet parking.

I have to disagree with the post by the Fodor's Editor, Doug. Yes, hotels can charge for extending checkout hours but most will extend by one hour (or even two) as a courtesy. We have had many 'Vegas hotels over the years do this for us. We have stayed at the Mirage alot recently, last time being in May, and they let us keep our room for 1.5 hours past checkout time then with no charge.

If you ask to keep your room for more then 1 or 2 hours be prepared to pay extra charges tho.

That might be the case most times, Lori, but the OP is checking out on a Friday. I've checked out on Saturdays from Vegas hotels and they wanted us out of the room at 11 on the dot so they can have it ready for that night.

We have done this often and the hotel just holds our luggage.
Once , the Rio gave us until 5pm to check out, which was great, since our flight was late that evening. (no charge)

You don't even need to carry your own bags down to the lobby. Call the "bell desk", they will send a bellman up and he will take your bags from you in your room, give you a claim ticket for when you are actually ready to leave the property (or when you are ready to retrieve your bags). When you are ready to pick up your bags, go to the cab line (if leaving by taxi) or to the bell desk and turn in your ticket to a baggage handler outside and they will retrieve your bags. But as pervious posters have mentioned, the day of your check out call down to the front desk and ask for a late check out, if they have the availability to do so, they will.

Oooh, I just read what Fodors Editor "Doug" posted and have to disagree. I worked front desk on the Strip for many years, for a late check out, the will NOT charge you (if you check out by their late check out time which is typically 1PM). If you ask for a late check out of around 6PM, yes, they will charge you, typically half the price of that nights room rate. If you call the front desk and ask for a late check out and they say yes I can give you until 1, they will not charge you.
