LAX Airport - Is an hour and twenty minutes for the layover enough time?

My in-laws are flying to Honolulu in March. My mother-in-law has never flown outside of the continental US, so I've been trying to give advice. She just received her itinerary from the travel agent, and it looks like the layover in LAX is about an hour and 20 minutes (arriving 8:55 a.m. and departing 10:15 a.m). They are arriving in Terminal 4 and departing in Terminal 2. I've been to LAX airport but its been awhile so I don't remember much about it. Do you think they will be able to make their flight okay, or should they talk to the travel agent to try to switch their flights?

Thanks!
Tracy

It is doable, but it will probably be stressful because they have to go out of terminal 4, then take a shuttle (or walk) to terminal 2, and then go through security again. Assuming their first flight arrives on time, their luggage was checked through to Hawaii, and there's not a lot of people at the security check, they should be ok.

Maybe that's too many 'ifs'...

Jean_Valjean, thank you for your reply. Part of the trip is for a work function, so I told her that I would check to see if there were any other options, especially since the company is picking up the tab.

Thanks again!

That sounds like a busy time of day for the shuttle and the security check...which two airlines is she dealing with?

They were flying American from St. Louis to LAX, and Hawaiian Airlines to Honolulu. However, I just talked to my MIL and they got the agent to switch the times. They are flying American on both legs, so they won't have to switch terminals, and they will have a longer layover. They are now much happier and I can't blame them. After missing my connecting flight to Paris in November, I'm all for really long layovers.

Thanks for all your help!
