Late April Trip to California?

We're planning a trip to California in April 2003. We'll do a few days in the Bay Area then head south to LA then San Diego. Was wondering if it is swimming weather in LA or San Diego that time of year...
Also, can anyone recommend a nice hotel in San Francisco...moderate price...we'll have teenage daughter with us. Thanks!

Do you mean swimming in a heated hotel pool or in the Pacific? The ocean is pretty cold year round and except for the few hot summer days there isn't much swimming.

April can be warm and sunny (but not likely hot) or rainy and cool. You may find swimming in a heated pool OK, but don't count on it.

Due to school vacation time in the northeast, we have visited California in April and have (luckily) almost always had perfect beach weather.

Recommend Humphrey's Half Moon Bay Inn in San diego

We were just in the San Diego area this past April and it was colder than the northeast. The Pacific ocean is always cold, even during the summer. You take your chances on the weather unless you go during the summer months. We will only go back in June or July for the best weather.

yeah, the water is usually pretty chilly but it has never stopped all my company from enjoying the ocean (they love renting boogy boards). if you are use to water temps in florida, it will be horrible but most of my company's from canada so they think it's fine. just get in...you'll get use to it.

I recommend the Tuscan Inn in San Francisco. All of my wedding guests stayed there this past April and liked it very much. It's very convenient also -- just 2 blocks from Fisherman's Wharf. It's a Best Western.
