Last minute road trip to Vegas
We are making a last minute road trip to Vegas to celebrate a couple of birthdays (a last ditch effort to recapture our youth as we enter our mid-30's, perhaps). Anyhow, does anyone have any recommendations for somewhere inexpensive to stay near the Strip? There will be 8 of us, so we would be getting two rooms with two beds each. Also, are our chances for getting deals better or worse if we try to get something for next weekend?

There are a Ton of hotels. I reccomend calling first. You might want to think about squeezing people into two rooms and not telling the hotel about everyone in your party. Try these well located hotels: Flamingo, Barbary coast, imperial palace, and treaure island. Finally, almost every Las Vegas hotel has a website and some even have special web rates.

Check out www.lvol.com - it's a great site. Has a discussion board where you can get all the info you need.

Go to a bookstore and pick up a Sunday Los Angeles Times. In the Calendar section are GREAT deals. Use the web to determine where the hotels are along the strip. The Holiday Inn on the strip is usually well priced and a good location. If you will be going on a weekday, stay in a fancier place and get the weekday rates listed in the Times. Tell them you read it in the Times and you are from LA (even if you are not). One location to avoid: near the Stratosphere hotel. Most of the action is near the MGM/New York New York or Treasure Island.

Monica- Those are some great suggestions (above). You will get a better rate at any hotel Sunday thru Thursday (you didn't say when you were going). All LV hotels charge a lot more for Fri-Sat arrivals because that's when everyone from CA likes to visit. Some won't even book a one-night Sat night visit. Stay at a central location like Imp Pal, Harrah's, or up the street at Riviera or Stardust, or down the street at Monte Carlo or NyNy. These are reasonably priced. Above all, do a little internet "shopping" at:
