Lassen VNP to Lava Tubes NM best route

This week, we will be traveling from Lassen VNP to Lava Tubes NM on the way to Crater Lake. We plan to visit McBurney Falls and wonder if it would be worth taking the longer drive to travel via Mt. Shasta? We enjoy scenic drives and short hikes.

Can I assume you mean Lava Beds National Monument. Detouring via Dunsmuir/Mt Shasta adds barely 30 minutes to the drive time because it is over better roads.

(ps: It isn't McBurney Falls -- its McArthur-Burney Falls)

I used to camp in the Mt. Shasta area so yes the views are amazing and well worth it to see.
